Seed-grown varieties start clean and reduce your pest pressure and disease. However, denser canopies create microenvironments that could act as perfect habitats for pest reproduction and pathogen spread. Having your Integrated Pest Management (or IPM) dialed in before you plant and selecting a density that is right for your environment can make it easier to scout and to effectively spray into the canopy if there is an outbreak.
